The Anesthesia Technician is expected to support daily operations and serve as a resource for anesthesia providers that includes participation in operating room turnovers, stocking supplies in the operating rooms, assisting with regional anesthesia blocks, assisting with difficult airways, assisting with specimen/laboratory transport, managing special purchasing/shipping/receiving of supplies, responding to recalls, managing medical gas tank par levels (Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide, Medical Air, and Nitrous Oxide), maintaining difficult airway supplies/expirations, maintaining Malignant Hyperthermia Cart supplies/expirations, daily equipment checks, serving as an interdepartmental resource, contributing to quality improvement initiatives, and contributing to cost reduction initiatives.
The Anesthesia Technician is accountable for collaborating/consulting with anesthesia providers/technicians to include Nemours Children's Hospital, Delaware and Nemours Children's Hospital, Surgery Center, Deptford in adherence to state and federal regulations and organizational anesthesia policies/procedures, reliable methods, and standard practices.

The Anesthesia Technician is expected to maintain all state and federal clearances for PA, DE, and NJ for collaboration with and periodic rotation to the Nemours Children's Hospital, Delaware and the Nemours Children's Hospital, Surgery Center, Deptford to optimize available resources in achieving optimal patient outcomes. Travel is compensated based on organizational policy.
Part-time, 20 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
1. Responsible to support daily operations in compliance with the standards established by regulatory agencies and the organization.
2. Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work environment for patients, families, and associates to include, although not limited to, the surgical suite, anesthesia work room, pre-/post- surgical care area, utility rooms, and hallways.
3. Responsible for daily preparation, calibration, confirmation of function, and cleaning of anesthesia and surgical equipment after use and in preparation for future use to include, although not limited to, ventilation systems, infusion pumps, IV fluids, pulse oximeters, ECG monitors, oxygen analyzers, airway gas monitors, ultrasound machines, warming devices, surgical tables, stretchers, endoscopy video equipment, cast saw, etc.
4. Participates in monitoring, ordering, maintaining, and managing medical gases to include replacing oxygen cylinders on patient stretchers, walk-about oxygen tanks in the operating rooms, carbon dioxide tanks on the video towers, and oxygen and nitrous oxide tanks on the anesthesia machines.
5. Participates in routine audits of disposable supplies for integrity, par levels, and expiration.
6. Participates in monitoring routine audits of equipment preventative maintenance in cooperation with Biomedical Engineering that includes documentation and other corresponding records are managed/maintained appropriately.
7. Demonstrates knowledge of inventory control and par level maintenance through demand flow to include scanning and special ordering of supplies in cooperation with the Lead Anesthesia Technician, Materials Management Lead Supply Technician, Perioperative Services Supply & Logistics Manager, Patient Flow Supervisor, and surgical team members.
8. Coordinates with surgeons, Patient Flow Supervisor, Service Coordinators, Lead Surgical Technologists, Lead SPD Technician, and vendors to prepare for surgical cases utilizing procedure cards and receiving/returning loaner instrumentation.
9. Participates in coordination of ordering, receiving, storing, and returning human tissue grafts with surgeons, Patient Flow Supervisor, Implant Coordinator, and approved vendors per regulatory and organizational policies and procedures.
10. Participates in coordinating transportation of specimens to the appropriate locations.
11. Required to participate in departmental and hospital quality programs and continuous improvement events to maintain and improve departmental and individual productivity and performance.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- American Heart Association (AHA) BLS required
- American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians (ASATT) preferred
