The President, Medical Group Foundation is a newly created position that offers an exciting opportunity to take MLKCH to the next level, crafting bold strategies to develop world class quality, growth, service and financial performance. This position plans and directs all administrative activities within the ambulatory services including formulating and executing on strategic and operational plans, business development and growth activity, and delivering on an exceptional patient experience. Additionally, he or she identifies and develops strategic growth opportunities, monitors performance, and works closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Vice President of Population Health and other senior leadership to develop competitive strategies in alignment with MLKCH’s mission and values. The ideal candidate will use his or her deep understanding of managed care to play a key role in the medical group’s transition from a fee-for-service model to value-based purchasing. 

Education & Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a relevant field is required. A Masters’ degree in Healthcare Administration or Business Administration is strongly preferred.
  • At least 10 years of progressive management experience in a medical group, IPA, MSO or health plan operations. Medical foundation experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing an outpatient healthcare setting and progressive acute healthcare organization. Experience in an at-risk medical group preferred.

  • An astute executive with broad business skills in all operations areas to translate MLKCH’s vision and strategy into operational tactics while building the organizational infrastructure needed to achieve objectives.
  • Demonstrated success working in cross-functional capacities to develop and lead overall clinic initiatives, ambulatory services strategic initiatives, and/or patient centers.
  • An understanding of the complexities of community physician practices coupled with the business and financial acumen to ensure that resources are applied in the most effective manner for achieving quality of care and service.
  • Solid understanding of the regulatory environment to monitor trends and changes in legislative and regulatory areas that affect clinical practices and ensure MLKCH’s compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and standards by credentialing and accrediting agencies.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital (MLKCH) is a private, nonprofit, safety-net hospital serving 1.3 million residents in South Los Angeles. Its new hospital opened in 2015 through a unique public/private partnership with the County of Los Angeles, the University of California, and other healthcare providers. The Board of Directors of Martin Luther King, Jr. – Los Angeles Healthcare Corporation (MLK-LA), which governs and operates the hospital, is committed to establishing an innovative model focused on patient-centered, coordinated care delivery, both inside and beyond the hospital walls. MLKCH and the MLK Community Medical Group have been working towards the creation of an integrated delivery system to better serve the community. The medical group offers quality primary and specialty care, disease management, and preventive services at three clinic locations. All of the medical group’s physicians have privileges at MLKCH. The group is made up of 33 employed physicians and 25 contracted physicians through the MLK Community Health Foundation.
