Havenwyck Hospital is a 243 bed, Joint Commission accredited and licensed psychiatric and substance abuse facility. Havenwyck Hospital is seeking a dynamic and talented  Psychiatric Care Specialist Preceptor (PCSP) to join our team of compassionate, dedicated professionals.

The PCS Preceptor is responsible for the unit based orientation of the new hire clinical staff. This position utilizes standards of practice to teach clinical staff the safe delivery of high-quality patient care in accordance with Havenwyck's policies and procedures, as well as State, Federal and other regulatory guidelines.  The PCS Preceptor will coordinate the provision of services that reflect the philosophy of the organization, standards of mental health care, care of assigned clients, and overall therapeutic milieu.The PCS Preceptor performs routine patient care duties under the direct supervision of the Charge Nurse.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • The PCS Preceptor is responsible for the unit based orientation of the new hire clinical staff, which includes training and evaluating performance, counseling new hires when necessary regarding performance concerns in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Directly monitors new hire employees during and through the orientation period in conjunction with the Staff Development Coordinator, Unit Managers and CNO.
  • Demonstrates the ability to accurately complete and review all documentation as it relates to the provision of care of patients or in daily operations and instructs others in its proper completion.
  • Responsible for documenting and assessing skills and competencies of new clinical staff through direct observation. Observes and reviews technique and provides constructive feedback when appropriate.
  • Works as a PCS during periods when he/she is not training new hire employees.
  • Participates in program planning and evaluation activities related to the clinical services of the organization. This position is responsible for conducting programming (didactic or alternative) when he/she is orienting new clinical staff and while working as a PCS on the unit.
