About The Ridge:

 

The Ridge Behavioral Health System is seeking a dynamic and talented Mental Health Technician. Located in Lexington, KY, the heart of the Bluegrass, The Ridge Behavioral Health System offers a healing environment that is reassuring to a patients' sense of security and confidentiality. Dedicated to excellence, The Ridge Behavioral Health System is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, as a licensed, 110-bed hospital, providing psychiatric (mental health) and chemical dependency (drug & alcohol rehabilitation) services to children, adolescents and adults. Inpatient care is provided on a 24-hour basis, seven days a week. Outpatient and partial hospitalization services are provided on a six-day per week basis, days and evenings. Care is provided according to an established code of ethical conduct and strict adherence to patient rights. The Ridge Behavioral Health System is owned and operated by Universal Health Services. Position Summary:

 

Provides routine non-acute physical care, for the patient, as well as, educational groups based on needs identified in the Master Treatment Plan.

 

Position Specific Competencies:

 

  • Effectively establishes rapport with patients and families by adhering to the therapeutic boundaries policy.
  • Adheres to the unit's program philosophy and schedule.
  • Provides clear and correct information to callers, visitors, and coworkers.
  • Completes assignments such as:  chart filing, compiling chart binder, and maintaining chart order.
  • Models assertive and respectful behavior.
  • Applies natural and logical consequences.
  • Applies basic limit setting with patients per CPI guidelines.
  • Adheres to unit schedule when intervening with patients.
  • Adheres to the unit's level system when intervening with patients.
  • Consistently implements handbook & unit rules when intervening with patients.
  • Ensures regular attendance & participation in program activities.
  • Orients new admissions to the unit, rules, schedule, and level system.
  • Consistently shares observations regarding specific behaviors, milieu concerns, & other relevant factors with other unit staff.
  • Facilitates group activities tailored to the appropriate topic, age, and level of understanding as approved by the Program Coordinator.
  • Assists with activities of daily living (ADL) as assigned.
  • Ensures patients are consistently monitored in the proper location for the duration of activities.
  • High risk behavior precautions are followed as per facility policy.
  • Supports the enhancement of a patient's self-esteem and responds in a therapeutic manner.
  • Withdrawal checks are performed as ordered and documented accurately.
  • Assists with vital signs as assigned; demonstrates correct procedures; reports findings to the nurse.
  • Follows proper NCI de-escalation techniques when handling crisis situations.
  • Provides appropriate crisis intervention as necessary by anticipating and responding quickly to escalating behaviors, utilizing de-escalation techniques to diffuse the situation, correctly prioritizing safety concerns.
  • Uses appropriate counseling skills by de-escalating aggression, using active listening skills, using appropriate tone and volume of voice, providing a high frequency and variety of positive reinforcements, maintaining appropriate boundaries, and promoting a positive peer culture.
  • Demonstrates proper procedures for therapeutic holds and seclusions.
  • Contraband is properly removed and disposed of according to policy.
  • Adherence and completion of precaution forms and policies.
  • Documents group education notes accurately, legible, & reflect accurate information and adhere to documentation protocols and policies.
  • Precaution forms are completed accurately and concurrently with patient behavior as ordered.  Documentation adheres to precautions policy.
  • Progress notes are current, complete, legible, and reflect accurate objective information and adhere to documentation protocols and policies.
  • Participates in shift report and accurately reports patient behaviors.
  • Documents significant developments &/or changes in a patient's behavior or condition promptly to the nurse and other team members as necessary.
  • Documents & reports incidents immediately and according to policy.
