Interpret and carry out physician/clinician orders, assess client needs, exercise nursing judgment in client care, provide leadership and assistance in health services, and participate as an active, integral member of the health care team. The staff nurse must display initiative and follow-through on duties with relatively little guidance; retain all confidentiality in client-related matters; be able to assist in identifying the changing needs of the health center; support the team concept of a health center staff; and maintain a professional working relationship with clinicians, co-workers and clients.
•Prepare and maintain confidential client medical records including processing and filing charts.
•Maintain accurate records of client registration, medical records, lab tests, treatment, etc.
•Respond to telephone calls, questions related to client care concerns requiring nursing judgment.
•Competently utilize the patient information system and practice management software.
•Maintain updated knowledge of family planning services, abortion services and birth control methods provided by the organization and provide accurate information to clients seeking information.
•Obtain and review complete client medical history.
•Provide appropriate and accurate client education, including medication education to clients for prescribed medications.
•Administer/dispense prescribed oral/inject-able medications and supplies, insuring proper labeling of all prescribed medication.
•Support clients physically and emotionally during examinations, treatments, and procedures.
•Participate in client follow-up regarding abnormal test results, referrals, appointments, etc.
•Complete routine lab tests including, but not limited to measuring and documenting client height, weight, and blood pressure.
•Maintain cleanliness and inventory of the lab areas, recovery room and exam areas.
•Perform invasive procedures as prescribed, i.e. injections, TB testing, and venipuncture.
•Consult with clinician/physician regarding client care/concerns as needed.
•Perform limited pelvic ultrasounds for purposes of measuring gestational size on all patients.
•Begin and monitor intravenous flow of medication(s).
•Conduct nursing assessment prior to the administration of conscious sedation.
•Prior to administering conscious sedation, ensure that all safety measures are in force, including back-up personnel skilled and trained in airway management and resuscitation, should complications occur.
•Administer medications ordered by a provider lawfully authorized to prescribe for the purpose of induction of conscious sedation for short-term surgical procedures.
•Anticipate and recognize potential complications of conscious sedation medication; recognize emergency situations and institute emergency procedures when indicated.
•Monitor vital signs, bleeding and pain during recovery until patient is stable for discharge.
•Triage calls from patients and staff per PPMW protocol.
•Assist in emergencies as needed.
•Participate in after hours emergency call triage nursing per PPMW protocol.
•Participate in risk and quality management activities, including, but not limited to recording adverse reactions, occurrence reporting and maintenance of abortion complication data.
•Appropriately delegate nursing duties to LPN/LVN and/or Health Care Assistant.
•Act as a resource to physicians regarding Planned Parenthood Policy.
•Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
•Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
•Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the District of Columbia, Maryland and/or Virginia. •OB/GYN experience preferred however, open to new graduates.
•Possess minimum of 2 years related experience.
•Ambulatory surgical experience preferred.
•Ability to work in a cost effective, efficient, flexible and customer service-oriented manner.
Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusion. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in various formats required. Ability to multi-task and to work effectively under pressure due to conflicting demands is required. Must be flexible, highly organized, creative and detail-oriented with the ability to set and meet deadlines.
This requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, listening and interpersonal relationship communication skills. Must be able to communicate clearly and interact comfortably with a diverse group of clients, staff and volunteers in a non-judgmental, professional and sensitive manner.
Mathematical Skills Must possess the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
Computer Skills Excellent keyboarding skills with high level of accuracy required. Must possess capacity to learn software programs required for specific position and access electronic communications, including e-mail, extranet and intranet.
